Built for the questions you actually have
Most teaching for new Muslims assumes you will pick things up from the community. Many reverts in the West do not have one nearby, or find that the questions they most need to ask feel embarrassing to raise in a room full of people who were raised in the faith.
A one-to-one class with a tutor who expects those questions changes that. Nothing is assumed. Nothing is too basic.
What we cover, in order
- Belief: what Muslims believe about Allah, the prophets, the books, the afterlife, in plain terms
- Prayer: wudu and the five daily prayers, taught step by step until they are comfortable
- Daily life: halal and haram in food, fasting in Ramadan, greetings, the Islamic calendar, and how to handle the practical situations that come up at work and with family
- Reading the Quran: the Arabic alphabet and the first steps of reading, so that the Quran is not only something you hear translated
The order is deliberate. Prayer comes early because it is daily; reading comes later because it takes longer and you will want the earlier foundations in place.
Your tutor
We match new Muslims with tutors who have taught reverts before and understand the specific ground: family who may not approve, workplaces that do not accommodate prayer, and the loneliness that can come with a new faith. Sisters are matched with female tutors, brothers with male tutors.
From here, most students continue into Noorani Qaida to build proper Quran reading.
